About Sturt

Established in 1941, Sturt is a school of excellence in Arts, Design and Fabrication.

Sturt presents contemporary design courses for adults and school-age students, accommodating students with a range of interest and skill level from professional to beginner, through full-time, part-time and weekend ‘short-courses’ plus extended intensive instruction within a Summer or Winter School.

The full-time Australian Qualifications Framework accredited Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Technology attracts students from all over Australia and overseas. Places in the class of 12 are sought-after and are offered on the basis of application date, application and personal interview with the Head of Sturt.

Part-time courses in metalwork (including jewellery), ceramics, wood and weaving are taught to over 100 students each week. Our residential Summer and Winter Schools attract over two hundred students in January and July to take part in a wide selection of courses. Short course weekends or one-day introductory workshops are programmed across the year.

Sturt Shop and Gallery is open 7 days a week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Gallery presents an annual program of professional exhibitions and, with the Shop, promotes the work of over 300 Australian artists and designers.
